The Washington Area Metal Trades elected new officer in December 2012, and on Tuesday January 8, 2013 those officers were installed and hit the ground running. The first order of business was to set goals for the year for the council specifically in the realm of organizing. ”We know organizing is the life’s blood of the labor movement,” said Chris Madello of UA local 602 and trustee of the council; “and in the case of the WAMTC there are lots of opportunities for us to expand our membership. However we can’t do it alone. We have to involve every affiliate and solicit foot soldiers from them to push this expansion.”
“The WAMTC will be reaching out to all affiliates to solicit that help and identify targets in the Washington, D.C. metropolitan area,” said Ron Ault President of the Metal Trades Department of the AFL-CIO. “This council has had many struggles over the years and none more devastating than the recent death of their past President Ed Witkowski who took on the task of trying to rebuild this council three years ago. “Our love and Prayers go out to Brother Witkowski and his family for the sacrifices he made to keep this council afloat while battling Cancer,” said Ault. “To honor Ed, we will do all that we can to make the WAMTC one of the best in the country.”
Meetings of the WAMTC are the second Tuesday of each month except as specified by the officers. affiliate members are welcome.
