The Metal Trades Department, AFL-CIO, mourns the passing of Rev. Jesse Jackson, a towering figure in the fight for civil rights, economic justice, and dignity for working people.
For decades, Rev. Jackson stood at the intersection of the labor movement and the broader struggle for equality, reminding the nation that civil rights and workers’ rights are inseparable. Through his leadership, advocacy, and moral clarity, he challenged injustice wherever it existed and lifted the voices of those too often unheard. He believed deeply that every person who works for a living deserves respect, opportunity, and a fair chance to build a better life.
Rev. Jackson’s commitment to justice extended into the workplace, where he supported union organizing, fought for fair wages, and called attention to the systemic barriers facing working families, particularly in communities of color. His message was simple but powerful: when workers stand together, they can move the country closer to its highest ideals.
His legacy will endure in every worker who finds strength in solidarity, every community that continues the fight for equality, and every movement that carries forward his vision of fairness and inclusion.
We extend our deepest condolences to the Jackson family, his loved ones, and all those whose lives were touched by his courage and conviction. The labor movement has lost a true ally and a tireless champion, but his life’s work will continue to inspire generations to stand up, speak out, and organize for justice.
