Representative Peters,
Opening our waterways to foreign vessels, crews and operators is wrong. Legislation proposing. changes to the Jones act is foolish, poorly staffed and does not consider the adverse impact on our maritime industries.
Please reject the “Merchant Marine Allies Partnership Act” and keep our US Flag and Jones Act intact for our national safety and security and keeping our economy strong.
Please do not water down the Jones Act! Keep the US flagged merchant marine . Main thing the Jones Act will keep US flagged ships and mariners to support the US military overseas. It is much cheaper to maintain the commercial US flagged merchant marine by maintaining the Jones Act than by allowing foreign flagged and crewed ships work domestically between two US ports.
American workers deserve every chance at a good paying job; don’t allow foreign ships and workers to take away those jobs. Keep our shipyards safe with US control!
I am submitting an honorary vote AGAINST this proposed gutting of the Jones Act. I am a great grandniece of the Federal Maritime Commission, Clarence G. Morse, who served our country under the Eisenhower, Nixon, and Ford Administrations.
The Jones Act is vital to ensuring a strong U.S.-flagged Merchant Marine. Weakening it under pressure from foreign interests would jeopardize not only American jobs, but also our national security.
A healthy U.S.-flagged commercial fleet and skilled mariner workforce are essential to supporting U.S. military operations overseas. Maintaining this capability through the Jones Act is far more cost-effective than trying to rebuild it later or relying on foreign-flagged, foreign-crewed vessels for domestic trade.
Protecting the Jones Act means protecting American sovereignty, economic stability, and our ability to project strength abroad.
