Yesterday’s misguided Supreme Court ruling in Janus v. AFSCME Council 31 will not deter the mission of our nation’s unions. At the Metal Trades Department, AFL-CIO, we stand with our union brothers and sisters in the public sector, and vow to continue to fight for all workers.

The Janus case isn’t just an attack on union workers; it’s an attack on the freedom of all working people to come together to improve their lives, their workplaces and their communities. The billionaires behind this case want to divide working people and limit our power in numbers because they want to weaken our ability to win for our families. They’ve spent millions to rig our democracy and our economy in their favor against everyday working people.

Unions are the best way to level the playing field for working people, and that’s why they have come under attack. It’s time for our elected leaders to be loud and clear that they support the freedom of working people to come together in unions and that they will work hard to do everything they can to make it easier for people to do so. We must hold our elected officials accountable to do what is right for working people and the country.
