Washington, D.C. – The Metal Trades Department, AFL-CIO, commends members of the House and Senate for reintroducing the Richard L Trumka Protecting the Right to Organize (PRO) Act, a landmark piece of legislation that will restore fairness to the economy and empower America’s working families.

“For far too long, America’s workers have faced an uphill battle when fighting for fair wages, safe working conditions, and the fundamental right to organize without fear of intimidation or retaliation,” said Ed Jones, President of the Metal Trades Department, AFL-CIO. “The PRO Act represents the most significant labor law reform in decades, ensuring that workers can freely exercise their right to join a union and bargain collectively.”

The Metal Trades Department applauds this renewed effort by lawmakers who recognize that a strong labor movement is the backbone of a thriving middle class. By holding employers accountable for violating workers’ rights, strengthening penalties for union-busting, and protecting workers from coercion, the PRO Act will help restore balance to our economy.

“We urge Congress to move swiftly in passing this critical legislation,” Jones added. “At a time when corporate interests continue to suppress worker voices, the PRO Act is a long-overdue step toward ensuring that every worker has the ability to stand together, demand better, and secure a brighter future for themselves and their families.”

The Metal Trades Department, AFL-CIO stands in full support of the PRO Act and remains committed to fighting for the rights of workers across our nation.
