President Trumka leaves our world knowing he did his part and more to safeguard the lives of working families.
Workers throughout North America who value a fair day’s pay for a fair day’s work will mourn for him.
Defenders of collective bargaining, the right to vote, and inequality in the workforce have lost a true champion.
America has lost a patriot, a family has lost a devoted patriarch, and working folks have lost a real friend.
The officers and staff of the Metal Trades Department, its International Union Affiliates, Local Councils, and Industry Partners will sorely miss his fortitude, faith, and courage in the time to come.
But let it be known that on this day, August 5, 2021, that although Rich Trumka’s voice has moved to the heavens, that his courage and faith are not extinguished. The courage of great leaders like Rich Trumka far outlive them and I know that the courage and convictions he displayed in his life and times will empower and become the soul and inspiration for new generations of workers and trade unionists to come.
Rich Trumka’s life will thankfully live on far beyond his years and the torch he lit in the hearts of workers around the world will shine brightly in his memory.
May the soul of our dearly departed friend and brother, AFL-CIO President Richard Trumka rest in eternal peace and power.
