The Metal Trades Department is supporting the American Feeder Lines and its CEO Percy Pyne to jumpstart a demonstration project under the DOT’s American Marine Highway program. Avondale in New Orleans is the best candidate to build the ships for American Feeder Lines because it has the capacity and the experienced workforce. American Feeder Lines is pledged to build its new fleet in U.S. shipyards and be fully compliant with the Jones Act. The project needs to secure a temporary and limited waiver of the Jones Act to begin operations. Its current fleet foreign-built ships will be replaced as soon as the U.S. ships are completed.
