The New Orleans Metal Trades Council (NOMTC) members at Avondale Industries will vote on a proposed new five-year collective bargaining agreement on September 26, 2013.
Avondale Industries was formed earlier this year by Huntington Ingalls Industries as a new commercial energy company. The site was formerly Avondale Shipyard, a Navy shipbuilding and repair facility which the company slated for closure in 2014.
“Since the closure announcement was made several years ago we worked tirelessly building a coalition to save Avondale. We look forward to a bright future for Avondale’s skilled workforce which we are so proud to represent,” said Ron Ault, MTD president.
President Ault will be at Avondale today to meet with workers and answer questions regarding the proposed agreement.
If ratified the new five-year contract will run from January 6, 2014 through January 6, 2019 and contains a wage and benefits package designed to be competitive in the commercial energy infrastructure industry in which Avondale is pursuing future work.
